Lynn Crosbie’s “Alphabet City”

Toronto Lit cartography as a Google Map Mashup.

In March 2007, I created a Google Map Mashup adaptation of Lynn Crosbie‘s poem, “Alphabet City”.

The “Toronto-laden abecedarian” — which can be found in the collection Queen Rat: New and Selected Poems — piqued my then & now interests in offline communities, pop culture & transmedia storytelling.

In making geographical “points” from the re-appropriated portions of the poem — as well as hyper-text link the many pop cultural references that Crosbie makes — I was able to interpret the work as an example of literary cartography.
